As we stand at the threshold of a new year, I’m reflecting on the beautiful chaos that was 2024 – a year marked by growth, change, and profound realizations. They say entrepreneurship is a journey of constant evolution, and this past year has certainly proven that true for both our salon families and my personal path toward alignment.
Watching God’s Plan Unfold
2024 was a year of expansion; we introduced new services at Tamara & Company, welcomed fresh talent to our team, and watched Studio Veer blossom in its second year of operation. Each milestone has been a testament to God’s faithfulness and perfect timing. But perhaps the most beautiful development has been watching my daughters come into their own as businesswomen. Since we opened our doors in June 2023, they’ve been right beside me. I’ve watched them learn, grow, and flourish. My mama heart bursts with pride.
I’ve seen them build an amazing clientele and watched those relationships blossom. I’m reminded that sometimes the most powerful thing we can do is step back and let our children soar. In my case, God has given me the unique privilege of letting go twice: first as they left home, and now as they take the reins of the business we built together.
Embracing a Season of Alignment
Letting go is always bittersweet, and this time it is coinciding with my own season of transition. For years, I like many women have worn multiple hats – wife, mother, homeschooler, business owner, mentor, service provider – often trying to be everything to everyone. In His sweet and gentle way, God has been showing me that this was never His design. The truth is, He didn’t create us to be wonder women, constantly running on empty in an attempt to do it all. Instead, He calls us to work from a place of rest, wisdom, and divine alignment.
As I navigate the unfamiliar waters of midlife, I’m learning that this season isn’t about slowing down as much as it is about flowing differently. It’s about choosing alignment over achievement, wisdom over wonder woman syndrome, and purpose over perpetual motion.
Walking in Diving Purpose
This is why I’ve chosen “aligned” as my word for 2025. To me, alignment means:
- Starting each day in prayer and seeking God’s guidance before the world’s demands
- Trusting the natural rhythms of the season I am in
- Embracing my evolving role from primary doer to wisdom-sharing mentor
- Setting boundaries that honor both my energy and my purpose
- Making business decisions that reflect my values and faith
- Finding joy in supporting my daughters’ journeys while cultivating my own
To be in alignment with God isn’t about doing less; it’s about doing what matters most. It’s about finding peace in living each day aligned with Him, and walking through the doors He opens. And sometimes it means stepping out of rooms that aren’t meant for us in the season we are in. A wise friend once told me, “Every time we say “yes” to something, we say “no” to something else.”
Breaking Free From the Wonder Woman Myth
As we step into 2025, I’m filled with great anticipation for this new and exciting chapter. There’s a profound peace in knowing that we don’t have to figure everything out at once. We simply have to stay aligned with the One who already has it all figured out.
To every woman reading this who is wearing herself thin trying to be everything to everyone, remember that God’s design for your life includes seasons of rest, transition, and realignment. You don’t have to wear a cape to be valuable. Your worth isn’t measured in the number of tasks you can juggle or roles you can fill.
Cheers to embracing new chapters, divine purpose, and the beautiful journey of alignment in 2025. I’m praying that we all find the courage to let go of who we think we should be and embrace who God created us to be.
